The local public swimming pool had a child there with an open wound of the staff infection Mersa, I'm trying to find out if it is safe for my grandchildren to swim there, and my pregnant daughter. The local ER doctors are not sure because of the many strains of staff that are immune to antibiotics.

What are your thoughts on the MERSA infection? I live in a state with reported cases in the school systems. A local school reported yesterday that parents were keeping about 25% of their children home from school. I realize that this is a very scarey thing but I have to ask myself if these parents are also keeping their children out of stores and other places where they might come in contact with the staff infection. I have reinforced hygene with my kids and they were raised to not share any items with others. Any thoughts....good or bad.

If I have a problem with getting MERSA staff infections, and want my belly button pierced......? So I have had a history with getting Mersa infections and continually getting them. However I have only had 1 very minor infection since September. This is due to the fact that I have been on antibiotics the whole time and have been being treated at John Hopkins. Now I really want to pierce my belly button but some people insist that I shouldn't do it because of my mrsa issues. Is there a way to decrease colonization of mersa resistant staph on skin? I have faliculitous (sp) and was getting secondary infections of staph. Suddenly the antibiotics stopped working so they took a culture and said it was the mersa strain. Because my skin is 'open' to infection to a greater extent do to the faliculitous, I am suffering from infection quite a bit...more than I would like! I'm not a fan of being on antibiotics but if there was something to either to decrease the breakout of faliculitous ordecrease the staph it I would make my day...not to mention my life!

Staff infection? Please... any one who knows anything about it? So, my sister just told me that her husband has a staff infection, a pretty bad one, and that it might be mersa? He gave it to theirdaughterr also. He started showing sighs of it about 2 weeks ago (started out like a spider bite, Iguesss) Well, they were at my house a couple days before. She swears that he had no sign of it when they were here. The problem is, I have a 4 month old baby and I'm extremely cautious (as I think any new mommy would be). whats on my leg? mrsa/infection/pimple? i just had mersa on my leg for about 3 weeks and had to stay in bed and away from people.the doctor said some people never get it and some people get it alot and it will just accour alot. i have never had it before last month.im 14 years old. he said i probly got it from the germs in a gym. i recentley noticed something on the opposite leg. at first i thought it was a pimple but it seems to be getting worseer than a pimple. it has the red around it (like a pimple would) but it hurts. its now starting to hurt just to walk on it.i heat it with hottttt water and try to lightyley squeeze it and infection does come out. however it dosnt look AS BAD as my mersa did and it seems to possibley be doing better? idk what it is any ideas? its kinda opened at the top red around it and swollen with infection i assume. it hurts to add presure or squeeze it. i am DEATHLEY afraid of doctors and i think it will just get better if i keep soaking it? i tohught it may b a pimple because recentley i have notcied sevral smal pimples on my legs but this one seems to be worse. please help?!

My friend died suddenly This could potentiallylly be a long question so please bear with me. I lost a close friend about a year and a 1/2 ago. She suffered from addiction to meth which I only found out about shortly before her death. I found a pipe and confronted her, so I can only assume it was smoked rather than injected. A few days before she died she revealed to me an infection in her stomach region. It appeared to be a hole that was black and greenish that had grown larger and larger by that day. She went to the hosptial to seek treatment, (only after I pushed), and left the hosptial before being released because her blood pressue was to high and they threatened to admit her. Days later she was found dead in her home. Her family has been very secretive about the cause of death after the toxigology report was released. They told everyone it was "listed" as a heart attack. She was only 24!!! What 24 yr. old has a massive heart attack?? None of this seems logical to me. As time has passed I have wondered if she died of some sort of "mersa" infection, meth overdose, or a combination. I am so lost and miss my friend. I just wish I knew why she died. It has later occured to me that the spot on her stomach could be due to her injecting the meth. I'm just not sure. I'm not a drug user and am so unfamiliar with how things work. I miss her everyday and just wish I knew why she is gone. They found her in bed and it looked as though she passed in her sleep. my 7month old son has had mersa. He also had pneumonia, upper resp. infections,what should i be asken my doc.? I have a incision on my chin where a swollen MERSA infection was drained on Sunday.I had it re-packed and the antibiotics are working well.The doctor told me to pull a few centimeters of the gauze out every day.He said it may need to be repacked once more. I had a ankle surgery, now a infection ? I had a 6 hour ankle surgery a month ago,I am a 22 year old. now part of my incision is still open and its a wound. The dr has already put me on bacterium dx and refantum. I also had a culture done of the wound and it came back with moderate mersa growth. SO he now wants to put a wound vac on the wound. I still live at home with my parents and siblings, and just started back at work today. Does anyone know about mersa? I know its airborn, so can my famly get it what? THanx for the help!!

would you consider a medical mal practice suite? i had to have a second disk shaving its were they go in and shave your disk down to get it of the nerve the first one i had was successfully but he did tell me that it would get weak and easily blow out again then two years later it happened and because of the situation i had to see a different doctor than before and i trusted the doctor so he went in and did the surgery it was a same day surgery when he was done i went home when i got there i noticed that my back was leaking a clear liquid and it made me nervous so i called him and he said it was nothing it happens to some people every day i seemed to get a little sicker and my back was leaking a little more i keep calling the doctor and he just keep saying it was alright for a week straight then finally i called and told them i was really sick and i was filling the gauze on my back in like 30 min every time so he agreed to see me he told me it was a small infection not to worry that night i was admitted in the hospital with a fever of 104 deg. and i had a staff infection called mersa and it ate away at my disk now its bone on bone and pinching my nerve the liquid that was leaking was my spinal fluid and that how the infection had got into my back now my question is am i childish thinking that i should sue him for mal practice and if any body agrees with what caused my infection and my disk to deteriorate ? thank you for your support

Why do I not have an appetite? I had major surgery May 2006, June 2006 we learned I had MERSA. Since my surgery was to correct scoliosis, I had rods to stabilize my spine. I never felt good after the surgery, by March 2007, I did not feel any better. Weight loss, diarahea, etc. We learned I had another infection. Not MERSA but it settled in where the rods were. So, in a immediate surgery, I had to have all the metal hardware removed so I could heal. IV antibiotics were next. I still do not have a appetite. This month, I am starting over with the surgery again. I am worried my immune system can't get better if I am not nutrionally sound? Why do you soppose, I still can not eat much. Even the thought of eating sickens me?

I am a bit worried about this.? About 3 1/2 weeks ago i was dignosed with m.r.s.a i maybe missing a letter it sounds like mersa when said out loud i took all the medicine, but the reason im on here is cause my arm has a zapping feeling when I put my arm all the was out and the bicep is very sore and so is the shoulder. The mersa started in an infection on my finger, so i was wondering if the m.r.s.a could be causing this.

Pancreatitis? My husband has severe pancreatitis. He has been in the hospital for 2 months. He also got a pseudocyst a complication from having pancreatitis. Then his liver messed up and the bile started backing up and he got yellow jaundnice.They did surgery last saturday to drain the cyst after the surgery they told me the contents of the cyst and his pancreas was infected with mersa. They cleared the infection from the pancreas he no longer has staff. He has had pnemonia 4 times, and also got CDIFF. The cdiff they treated with antibotics and its cleared up. He started breathing like 60-70 breaths a minute so they had to put him on a vent for like 9 days. He has been through so much and he is only 35. my 18 month old daughter has had a low grade feaver for 2 days and black sticky poop. any ideas? okay my 18 month old daughter has had just about everything u can imagine from tumors to ear infections, to mersa, EVERYTHING! except this. for the past two days she has been running a low grade feaver and pooping about 8times a day, when she does poop its black and sticky and she screams bloody murder. ive been giving her nothing but water and pedilite (juice and the popsickles) and her diat hasnt changed at all. How to invoke hysteria? About a year ago where I live, we started reading about cases of Mersa, (some sort of virus or bacteria) in our local schools. For a time news agencies were publicizing every case. It was not long before it was a common discussion topic among concerned adults in the communities affected. People were frightened their children would fall ill to this potentially serious infection. We later found out that the Mersa outbreak was no outbreak at all and the number of cases were well within normal limits. The only difference was they were being reported by the media, even though there was no unusual cause for concern. Does this sound familiar? With global warming the media is obviously employing this same tactic. All they have to do is get people to focus on something. That's why we see news constantly about breaking ice and stranded polar bears. Because people are focussed the effect of seeing something quite ordinary becomes something to panic about.

Suing the doctors for negligence? My mom is to this day in a local hospital 7mo. She had 4 surgery's , first. one colon surgery due to rectal bleeding .Then leaking fecal matter through the abdominal incision ,with abdominal internal abscesses causing 10 weeks antibiotics keeping her n.p.o placed on tpn,lipids to rest the bowel.Apparently this did not work and she had a 2nd surgery and ended up with an ileostomy bag. She continued to have internal abscesses with mersa,vre,yeast and fungal infections.3rd. and 4th surgery were to remove a recent infected ventral hernia mesh and clean up the abscesses. Every time she is off the antibiotics for 2 weeks wbc starts to elevate. Now her gallbladder is infected and possibly liver damage .We are awaiting a liver biopsy. Grant it she is an 80 year old but prior to all this she lived independently at home loved to shop and enjoyed her children and grandchildren. Now she is so weak cannot walk ,jaundiced wbc 27,000. I wanted to send my mom to another hospital to give her a chance but her family md. never did. I am her power attorney. She is in poor condition. I am so mad I want to sue these doctors and hospital . Do I have a case?

My husbands health has drove my crazy!? Hi there, My husband got Pancreatitis from having gallstones in his pancreas duct. They did an ERCP and thats how the pancreatitis started. My husband has had yellow jaundnice, pnemonia 2 times, his liver bile backed up and they had to put a bag on his side to drain the bile from his liver, he ended up getting a pseudocyst the size of a football ,they waited 6 weeks to go in and drain the cyst, they said his pancreas looked like mush, he is only 35 years old and has been through so much, when they did the surgery his pancreas was infected with MERSA, if you are not sure what that is its a staff infection. homeopathic immune boosters? I had scoliosis surgery a few years ago, a got MERSA and managed to work through that with IV antibiotics and they re-opened the incision twice to clean it out. After i got off IV antibiotics I went down hill, it turned out I had a second infection that required the rods to be removed and a different set of IV antibiotics. It has been almost one year since the hardware was removed and I still struggle with poor appetite, therefore making it a struggle to eat what is best for me. I am supplimenting with several things to boost my immune system, I am also taking Iron, Mg, Ca, Vit. D. Greens, echenacia, Noni, and a liquid vitamin with Noni. It all taste horrible but I want to be as strong as possible. After all, my surgery was a success, the infections were the problem. What are your thoughts on all of this? Do you think I am doing the right thing by adding immunity help. There always seems to be this struggle between Dr's and adding homeopathic, natural suppliments.

HELP WITH CHEEK PIERCING!!!? IM 12 years old and I pierced my cheek Monday night....it still hurts and I pierced it myself with a sanitized dull earring so can you help me with what to do please im kinda scared and my friends are a holes and there telling me ill get mersa whsich I kinda belive so please help with how to take care of the piercing and how not to get an infection!!!!! It hasnt gotten any redder since monday like AT ALL it got smaller and I clean all the things I use to put in it and it hasnt gone all the way through just like.....and thin layer is seprating it from inside my mouth and I clean it everyday... and my mother doesnt know so I cover it with a band aid when shes around and at p.e.... I already pierced it monday night! by my self with a dull earring and it made a nasty snap sound ill take it out but can I get it pierced in the same place when im older like on the scar?

Could I get viruses from a pin prick? I had blood taken from my finger 2 days ago through a needle prick in my finger. It is actually still a little sore, though you can barely see the hole and it hasn't bled. Anyway, today I was receiving papers from the public that also had their fingers pricked. On a few of the papers, there were some fresh blood smears (I actually saw someone bleed on one). Not thinking, I handled them and may have touched the smear with my pricked finger. Could I contract any kinds of diseases or viruses this way? I really worry about things like HIV and other infections. There has actually been a case of MERSA where I work not even a week ago.
