Would using a prevention pregnancy method after sex be as effective? I hope someone answers soon? My girlfriend and I had sex about two weeks ago. Condom broke and i ejaculated, it wasn't a major tear thats why I I didn't notice at first. We got VCF spermicidal foam meant for pregnancy prevention, meaning you put it in before sex, and it becomes effective within 6 minutes. She put some up her vagina only 30 minutes after sex. We felt confident it would work, it was loaded with spermicide and she put a good amount up there but recently shes been having mood swings, a very odd taste in food, and fatigued a lot. No vomiting yet but I'm sure that doesn't matter too much, everyone is different. Her period should be coming up soon, a little before thanksgiving. What are the chances of our method working? HELP! =p
Can you only buy pregnancy prevention pills with a prescription? Im 16 and abstinence isn't working as a pregnancy prevention method for me. I still go to a pediatrician and Im wondering if I can get the pill from them. Do my parents need to come? Because unfortunatly that is something that is not going to happen. Can I just buy it at Walgreens or something? And what price range are we talking? And yes I use condoms Im just looking for some reasurance. Please don't tell me im too young or stupid or whatever you think. Because I don't care about that, Im just looking for some help.

I dont want to have to deal with the side effects...... Have any of u used it?? whats ur experience with it???? what Do u think is the best method?? excluding abstinence... im married..
Pregnancy prevention: rhythm method? I have been looking at articles for pregnancy prevention via scheduled infertility, but I'm still confused as to what time of the month I am ovulating. I have pretty irregular periods, thanks to some external factors lately, but I seem to get my period around the 20th. This month, I got my period on the 25th. Hypothetically, if I got my period every 28 days and had started my period on May 25, at which time was I ovulating before my period? Bonus (I will give you kudos and a smiley-face thank you): Which days of my last cycIe was I least likely to become pregnant? Oh, sorry guys - My boyfriend and I are actually implementing like every single kind of birth control, and I just wanted to be clear about this one. I'm getting birth control shots, he's got condoms. We're also considering Birth Control pills (yech) and Morning After pills. We're actually quite paranoid about becoming pregnant.
Pregnancy Prevention? After reading up online, I find this Ovulation Method and stuff way to confusing, and would appreciate some help. Looking to prevent having a baby, and along with using a condom, I'd like to know we were having intercourse at the "safest" times of the month.. Sadly, online, the "safest" times are not clear. Before or after ovulation? Right after period ends, and before next starts?.. Oh, and, "morning after pills".. do they work, I have "high self control" and pull out even with a condom, no exceptions, Should I purchase a pill afterwards also?.. Thanks I realize abstinance is the only 100% way, I'm not completely retarded.. With all the preventions out there, which, three of which I just listed combined, won't be 100% safe.. Duh, but its better than relying on only a flimsy condom, not pulling out, at a random date on the calendar, is it not?...
Discharge and possible pregnancy? So I'm aware that there's a pregnancy prevention method that involves having your "safe days" and your "non-safe days". (Not the best method.) I looked up that while you're ovulating, it causes a white vaginal discharge and it also indicates that it's also your non-safe day. I also read that once you are pregnant, the discharge stops since sperm is being fertilized. I had unprotected sex just yesterday (wasn't completely finished) and I have some discharge today. Does that mean I'm not pregnant? Or...is it too soon?
Britain has the highest rate of teenage pregnancy in Europe is it time to blame the boys ? Everything that is being done to enhance sex education amongst teenagers is useful but ineffective. Are we trying to prevent the teenage pregnancies or are we trying to make them safer? If we are trying to prevent them, then easier access to prevention methods is the obvious answer, if simple protection is beyond the wit of teenagers, then swingeing responsibilities might be the best method. Make the young men take responsibility for their actions. That old chestnut "I thought she was on the pill" must become unacceptable. Give the boys the responsibility for pregnancy and it will stop. Make them give their time to their children by law. Every other day and every other weekend, at the behest of their babies mother, will make that 5 minutes of unprotected passion, extremely unattractive. Until the boys pay the price this will continue. How can we best make them shoulder their responsibilities
I need advice on pregnancy prevention? What's the best way to use a condom so it will not break during sex? Also, has spermicidal foam/gel been recalled from the shelves or something because I can't find them ANYWHERE in supermarkets or even chemists. Are they out there? Also, which days are appropriate for having sex according to the rhythm method? How does this work? Advice on any of these questions would be very helpful, thanks. Kitt: I believe the answer is: I'm old enough to do what I want with whom I want.
Is the birth control pill enough to prevent pregnancy? I take my pill every day, precisely at 5:30 pm without fail. Is the pill enough to prevent pregnancy on its own, or should I be using it in conjunction with other methods of prevention? Do you use any other combinations besides the pill and condoms? We, personally, don't like condoms very much.
How effective are condoms on their own? I ofeten see things that say to use birth control as well as a condom but is a condom still pretty effective as the primary method of pregnancy prevention? What are the statistics on it?
Boyfriends, birth control, pregnancy prevention, the Pill? I'd really like some real answers from women preferably! I've been with my boyfriend for a long time now and we both have no STDs or anything dodgy. We've talked and we really want to stop using condoms and switch to something like the Pill for personal reasons. I'm slighty nervous though. I will take the Pill everyday at the same time but I'm unsure of the effects. I've been reading up about different methods and was interested in a 5 year injection I found but was scared away by side effects. I'm unsure whether I should get the combined pill or the other one. I'm not really sure why they're different. My grandma is really sceptical about these things and reckons the Pill will make a person infertile and I would be distraught if I was infertile. That's probably just a grandma being a grandma though. Anyway, I'm looking for some tried and tested replies. I am 17 but please don't let my age concern you. It's because of my age that I really cannot get pregnant. Help? Sorry this is long!
Why does it happen so much? I was reading Time Magazine recently, and I saw a statistic where 37% of all pregnancies are between two people who aren't married. That's up from 5% in 1960. Why does this happen so much today? We have much better pregnancy prevention methods today, but the number has shot up. Do unmarried people want to have kids, or is it unmarried people are having more sex?
Plan B Should I use it? Or should I ask - Is it for me? I know that being on a birth control is the safest way, but I'm thinking it's just a waste for me. I'm not as sexually active, and my boyfriend lives a little far so we don't get to see each other that much. We have our own problems with out families not liking each other and stuff, so we don't, or we can't, usually get physically active when we meet. We get sexually active only sometimes. So I'm thinking that Plan B is the only solution for me. I mean I don't want to take pregnancy pills everyday when I get sexual intercourse once every 2 months or something, and the shots and all the other pregnancy prevention methods all seems pointless to me. Anyone, help.......
is this good pregnancy prevention? ok, durex extra sensitive condoms with spermicide lubricant on them already and the with drawl method?? i cant go on birth control because of other medicines im on and the history of cancer in my family.. i just wanna see if you think this is highly effective... :) thanks. also, if me and my bf don't use condoms and just do withdrawal, how effective is that?? i looked it up online and ppl said dat the pre cum doesnt contain sperm. unless the sperm from the last time the guy cummed wasnt cleaned out, and it gets totally cleaned out when he urinates.. so, honestly, is there sperm in precum, cuz some say there is, and sum say there isnt?
family planning help, tips for young couple, (pregnancy prevention)? me and i girlfriend are talking about birth control and well we had never used it before, she is a virgin. We wouldnt like to use a condom on the first time, so we would like some help and tips on choosing a good method. Preg. Prevention with "Today" contraceptive sponge when used correctly in conjunction with proper withdrawal? Note: The only aspect of this question is pregnancy, not STDs. We have both been checked and we are both clean. So please, keep your answers, advice, and input limited to pregnancy prevention. My girlfriend and I have been having sex for quite some time now, and we always use condoms. The reason for this is that we were both quite worried about her getting pregnant. However, over the past few times we have had sex, she has made me aware that she has the desire to have unprotected sex, and even further, for me to ejaculate inside her. Naturally, I would love to have sex without a condom and ejaculate inside her, but I know there are many risks. So i went on a mission to find the best ways to prevent pregnancy while still having unprotected sex and not taking any monthly pills. (She doesn't want to take daily birth control) So I have been researching the Today Sponge, and withdrawal method. According to many studies, withdrawal method has a 5-10 percent failure rate if done correctly. I also learned that the Today Sponge has a 9 out of 100 failure rate, if used correctly. I know i will have self control and pull out before I ejaculate, and I will make sure my girl uses the sponge according to the package. I know anything can happen of course, but just for the sake of my question, take into consideration that I will be performing both methods correctly. Also, take into consideration that I won't be masturbating, which means there will be no sperm in the pre-***, and I would be urinating regularly anyway, so even if there were any sperm left from a previous ejaculation, they would be cleared out of my urethra prior to my girlfriend and I having intercourse. This basically means the only risky aspect of this, is the risk of pre-*** leaking into her vagina during intercourse before I pull out. So that being said, my question is... If i perform both the withdrawal method and have her use the Today sponge correctly, what are the chances of her getting pregnant from pre-*** although i have not masturbated and have regularly urinated, and she is correctly using the sponge in her vagina? I thank you so much for taking the time to review my question. I hope you have the time to answer this question, it will be of help to my relationship that i can't express into words. Any information and advice you can give me, I would consider a personal favor. Thank you in advance.
What is the risk of pregnancy if withdrawal and spermicide are used at the same time correctly? Note: The only aspect of this question is pregnancy, not STDs. We have both been checked and we are both clean. So please, keep your answers, advice, and input limited to pregnancy prevention. My girlfriend and I have been having sex for quite some time now, and we always use condoms. The reason for this is that we were both quite worried about her getting pregnant. (She doesn't want to take daily birth control) So I have been researching spermicide, and withdrawal method. According to many studies, withdrawal method has a 5-10 percent failure rate if done correctly. I also learned that spermicidal lubes, creams, foams, and gels have a very low failure rate of 4-9 percent, if used correctly. I know i will have self control and pull out before I ejaculate, and I know I will use the spermicide correctly according to the package, and use enough of it. I know anything can happen of course, but just for the sake of my question, take into consideration that I will be performing both methods correctly. Also, take into consideration that I won't be masturbating, and I would be urinating regularly anyway, so even if there were any sperm left from a previous ejaculation, they would be cleared out of my urethra prior to my girlfriend and I having intercourse. This basically means, as far as I know, the only risky aspect of this, is the risk of pre-cum leaking into her vagina during intercourse before I pull out. So that being said, my question is... If i perform both the withdrawal method and spermicide method correctly, what are the chances of her getting pregnant from pre-cum although i have not masturbated and have regularly urinated, and there is sufficient spermicide inside her vagina? And is there anything else we can do to prevent, or significantly decrease the risk of her getting pregnant if we both want for me to ejaculate inside her? Through any possible combination of contraceptives? (including but not limited to spermicide, plan B or any other emergency contraceptive, or diaphragm, etc.?) I thank you so much for taking the time to review my question. I hope you have the time to answer this question, it will be of help to my relationship that i can't express into words. Any information and advice you can give me, I would consider a personal favor. Thank you in advance.
we're 16 and may start having sex? My boyfriend and I have been together for over a year, and I feel like we're both ready. If the time comes and we do have sex, I want to be as safe as possible. what are the least risky methods of pregnancy prevention (we're both virgins) and please I am not looking to hear that we're too young, because that's not going to help me.
PLEASE HELP I'M REALLY WORRIED ABOUT PREGNANCY!? okay so im taking estelle 35ed. last week i remember taking at least one, maybe two pills late in the day because i slept in. i took all the pills on the correct days just some were not within the same time.. like saturday i tok it at 11am than sunday night at 8pm but it was within the 12 hour time period, so the instructions claim it to be okay. but then i had sex on tuesday night (we didnt use protection=[ and he tried to pull out as soon as he felt it coming but we dont know if he did c*me in me) and i dont remember what time i took that tuesdays pill because i missed it in the morning but if i didn't, i know i took it when i got home, which is around 4ish. i know you are supposed to take it around the same time every day. but yeah i dont know what this means now because i didnt use protection, but every pill i took was within the 12 hours (of apparent pregnancy prevention still active). BUT the real problem is that i havent gotten my period. I know that you may have a withdrawal period of a couple of days and i was supposed to get it yesterday but i didnt and i really should have got it today like every other cycle. but i didnt and now im really freaking out like majorly, and im scared because there is no way i can get pregnant at this time in my life, and please dont tell me im an idiot for not using other protection methods because i know that. am i pregnant????? PLEASE HELP, ALL ANSWERED APPRECIATED! :-s
Murder she wrote? With modern technology birth control methods and pregnancy prevention. why is murder of unwanted babies allowed?
Teen pregnancy; Don't we handle it the wrong way? Instead of constantly putting down pregnant teens and stereotyping them and spending so much time in prevention why don't we focus on helping them to be good moms? I had my daughter at 19 and I think I'm a very good mom. Instead of whispering behind these girls backs shouldn't we be teaching them about motherhood? And once a teens pregnant why do we treat her like dirt and say things like, "she should be ashamed" instead of letting her be happy? What's done is done, and no matter the age when you feel your baby kicking in your tummy thats special, and for teen moms they have nobody to share that with because they're outcasted. Shouldn't we accept the ones who've already become pregnant and teach and nurture them to properly love and care for their baby? I'm all for prevention methods, but I do think we spend too much time on that and neglect the girls who've already become moms. Does anyone agree?
Why do Pro-Life’ers refuse to admit what Planned Parenthood’s true goals are? OK… Planned Parenthood does give abortions… We all know this… But that is but ONE of the reasons they exist... Their goal is to give FULL DISCLOSURE AND SEXUAL EDUCTION to every human they can get to listen so that Abortions are NO LONGER NECESSARY! Planned Parenthood’s GOAL is to never have to perform another abortion EVER AGAIN. That would be the greatest thing in the universe for them! To put away the equipment and only bring it out in case of rape or the pregnancy threatens the life of the mother. They want EVERYONE on earth to understand that yes, abstinence is the #1 way to not get pregnant and not get an STD, but since people WILL have sex no matter how much you tell them not to, they should be told the ways to prevent transmission of STD’s and prevent pregnancy so that when they go out and have the sex the abstinence only people tell them not to have, they have the knowledge to stop pregnancy and STD’s. Why do people that are so anti-abortion stand in the way of the very education and methods of pregnancy prevention that would eliminate the need for a majority of abortions in the first place? Why do they perpetuate the misinformation that Plan-B (A.K.A. The Morning After Pill) is "Immoral" and "The Abortion Pill" when it is nothing but bold faced lies? Supporting Abstinence Only Education and the outright lies that are told in those ‘classes’, in the long term, perpetuate the need for abortions and disease that they scream so very loud about. ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ So my question is: If you are anti-abortion, why do you also protest the education that would reduce the need for abortions in the first place? ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ http://www.plannedparenthood.org Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is the nation’s leading sexual and reproductive health care advocate and provider. Chances of birth control failing? Mature answers only please. This week, between Tuesday and Thursday, I was spending time with my fiance, and we had intercourse a total of five times in this three day period. She's been on birth control for a few months, and takes it as directed without missing her schedule, but no method of pregnancy prevention is 100% effective. So my question is, what are the odds of her birth control failing in general? Or even better, what are the odds of it failing given our scenario?
Birth control methods? Condoms don't look to good.? I'm on birth control and have been for a few years. My boyfriend and I don't use condoms because they're rather uncomfortable and just aren't right for us. BUT plenty of people at a couple school I'm "connected" to do use condoms but there are so many problems with them being the method of choice. My friend who uses condoms had a slip and forgot to put one on in the heat of the moment and called me up freaked out so I bought them Plan B because they're only 17 and I'm 18 already. Now, since then (2 months ago) I've had 2 calls from friends of his who have had problems too: One had the condom slip off and stay in the girl after they were done and the other had a condom that was missing a tip. Does anyone else have experiences like this? Seems to me the "Use a Condom!" slogan (while quite usually effective in pregnancy/STD prevention when used correctly to the letter) could use a little end-note of "Ask your Doctor for Birth Control!" I know a lot of people use both birth control and condoms. What do you use and why? IUDs are good unless you have a history of TSS. And I'm not asking for myself, thank you. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experiences like this and what they use. Yes, we're both STD free, and no abstinence-only lectures, it's kinda past that point isn't it? :) Dolphins and humans are two intelligent mammals and we both have sex for fun, not just reproduction. But, sex isn't just for reproduction and fun, it's also about intimacy and feeling that much closer to someone. Sorry if you can't feel that.
Preventing Pregnancy Help...? What other OVER THE COUNTER contraceptive can I use with a condom that will help with prevention of pregnancy, besides abstinence? I can't take the meds perscribed by a dr 'cause I'm at a high risk with all those hormones put in my body. Is there a pill I can take that won't put so much hormones in my body? I'm a 19 year old, virgin, female and I was just curious 'cause I think I may start to become sexually active and I don't want to get pregnant. Please don't shun me for asking this question. I'm wanting to know what may be the best options for the pills and over the counter methods.
Precum does not contain sperm.? This is long I know but below are articles claiming precum has no sperm. I know PLENTY of ladies on here claim pre cum contains sperm but I want a debate because I disagree. Study after study has disproven this and the many researchers are deciding that most men DID NOT pull out in time but do not want to admit this. I AGREE that the pull out method is VERY risk but I also think if done correctly the risk of pregnancy is VERY VERY slim. Think of how many women are trying to get pregnant and can't! Now you take away the biggest surge of sperm and you think there is just a likelihood of pregnancy? That doesn't appear to make much sense. I use the pull out method and my doctors, friends, parents all think I am nuts like most of you but I have been using it exclusively for nearly a year and never gotten pregnant. I am not a teenager either. I am a 25 year old woman who is engaged to a stable man. In the "Journal of Assisted Reproduction Genetics, 2003 Apr;20(4):157-9. Zukerman asked "Does preejaculatory penile secretion originating from Cowper's gland contain sperm?" "Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Rabin Medical Center, Petah Tikva, Israel." Their conclusion was "Preejaculatory fluid secreted at the tip of the urethra from Cowper's gland during sexual stimulation did not contain sperm and therefore cannot be responsible for pregnancies during coitus interruptus." You can't be more definitive than that. Precum does not contain sperm UNLESS there was a previous ejaculation, then the sperm comes from semen still in the urethra. The main reason for failure of the withdrawl method is the inability of guys to admit they didnt pull out in time. ANOTHER ARTICLE/ENTRY: by Konstance McCaffree: (05/27/2004) Your question is an excellent one. Given that there is no such thing as a "perfect" use of withdrawal, there are many possibilities for how pregnancy occurs when withdrawal is used. The research is identified in Hatcher, et al. Contraceptive Technologies and you can find it there, as well in the newest edition (18th) which will be out soon. There is always new research on the composition of pre-ejaculate as well as ejaculte. As you well know, dealing with human behavior and biology is not EVER an exact science. Withdrawal is actually a better method of pregnancy prevention than is sometimes stated. The problem is that it is not perfect and it is not at all a good method of preventing sexually transmitted infections. In withdrawal, the penis must come completely away from the opening of the vagina. It also must occur before any ejaculation has occured. This makes it difficult to determine. Was there an ejaculation? Since ejaculation and orgasm are two different functions, it is very possible that ejaculation, or at least a partial ejaculation occurs before a man realizes it and is able to withdraw. When withdrawal happens, there is often seepage of semen at the opening to the vagina as well. I certainly know that it is a common belief that pre-ejaculate has sperm in it, but examination of it in recent years has found that it has little to none. For years we were all taught that pregnancy could occur from any contact of the penis to the opening of the vagina, and we all live with that information today; even my colleagues on sexualhealth.com. I am going by the present research as recent as the early 2000's. Comments??
Natural methods to increase fertility? i'm looking for some herbal/natural methods to increase fertility for my partner and myself. Also natural miscarriage preventions would be great. Do these natural fertility methods increase chances of multiple pregnancy? Are they safe? And do they actually work?
will they give me a partial hysterectomy? (remove uterus, but leave ovaries)? I am 25 years old, I have 2 children, and I definitely do not want anymore. I started menstruating when I was 10 and it has been a horrible experience that just keeps getting worse. My cramps are debilitating and leave me bedridden. My cycle is every 23 days (average for a normal women is every 28 days). My flow lasts for 11-14 days (average for a normal women is 3-7 days). I'm tired all of the time and I have multiple cysts on both ovaries. My doctor just wants to keep monitoring the cysts, but I can't afford monthly ultrasounds at $600 each. She said that birth control might be a good option to stop my periods, but I got pregnant with my twins when I was on birth control and so I'm a little bit leary of trusting it as an effective method of pregnancy prevention. I currently have an IUD and my limited insurance will not cover pills as long as I choose to keep it. I just want to be done with this and have my uterus removed but I'm not sure if my doctor will let me.
What in the world happened? What the hell happened to sex ed? Why do younger people seem to think the pull out/withdrawal method is useful for pregnancy prevention and that they dont have to use condoms even for safety?
Is sex worth having a child you're not prepared for? We all hopefully know that every method of contraception is not 100% effective, with every method of pregnancy prevention there is the chance you will get pregnant, it happens time and time again, so I want to know if having sex is worth the chance of getting pregnant which can put a halt to your life goals, schooling, hobbies, career, and giving your child the best life you possibly can, and the STD's that you can also become infected with even while using a condom. There are other ways of getting sexually satisfied than risking bringing a new life into this world that has to suffer their parent's selfish consequences.
Endometrisosis and infertility? I have not yet been diagnosed with endometrisosis but I have a high suspicion that is what I have, even if it is just a mild case of it. My periods have almost always been 7 days or longer on average (usually no longer then 8 days but I have had 14 days of bleeding before). This has all been off of birth control pills so this is just me. I also have pain in my rectum around the time of my period. The pain from PMS has always been fairly severe for me the days before and on the first day of my period (pain in my abdomen, legs, and lower back). Medication does seem to help subside these cramps but not always completely. Plus, for the past 10 years I have used the withdrawal method for pregnancy prevention and it has been effective...which I have come to believe I am in fact not that lucky. So with all this I have set up a doctor's appointment to begin either figuring out if I have this or ruling it out and going on to something else. My question is for those of you out there who have been diagnosed with endometriosis, were you able to conceive after surgery? My husband and I are thinking of trying for a baby soon...I guess I just need some hope. Oh and I have read just about every article on the internet about the symptoms and I am no doctor but it sounds like every thing that I have run into. I looked into PCOS while I was searching around for possible problems. I don't think its this because my cycles (although I bleed for 7 days or longer) are almost always 29 days. also I don't have excess body hair. I looked into fibroids during my search also, but again...just doesn't match how I am feeling other then the possible infertility problem.
Pregnancy or Period Symptoms? I havent had a period since May 31 and usually I have around a 34 day cycle, which would make me 4-5 days late. I have felt a little crampy, very bloated, and my boobs are like swollen, but not nearly as sore as they usually get a couple days prior to my period. I know this may seem a little premature, however, the past week all I want to do is eat, and I am always hungry. This is very much unlike me because normally I have a tiny appetite. I also found that I am putting extra salt on everything. I dont know if these facts are irrelivant but? I had unprotected sex may 16th, 20th, 22nd, and July 2nd. He always pulls out [ i know its not a reliable method of prevention & we arent really trying to prevent it, so please no lectures]. I have thought I was pregnant before, and wasted a test, so I am trying to wait a little longer this time. What do you guys think??
Which Birth Control are you on? Ok this is a little survey I am doing for my nursing final. Our professor decided to add a little extra. We are suppose to include something about our specific interest in this field and mine is teen obstetrics and pregnancy prevention. 1. Which form are you currently on? if a a pill which on? 2. Was your first form a pill? If so what pill? 3. How many different forms and what are the names? 4. How old were you when you began taking birth control? 5. Are you satisfied with your current method? 3.
Can any Catholic give me a cogent defense of the Church’s stance against contraception and birth control? The Catholic Church teaches, at least from my understanding (I could be wrong), that the only acceptable form of birth control is to plan around the woman’s natural cycles. Why is this method of preventing pregnancy any more morally acceptable than using physical contraception such as condoms, or chemical means to prevent pregnancy, such as the birth control pill? If the Church’s family planning strategy works towards the same ends as the “secular” way of pregnancy prevention does, why is the Catholic Church quibbling over such trivialities of how one prevents pregnancies? I never understood this. It would be like me saying that murdering someone with a gun is wrong, but murdering someone with a knife is okay. It is still murder, and the means by which this act is committed doesn’t change the fact that it is immoral. So why are the means so important with respect to pregnancy prevention? Either birth control, in any form, whether through family planning, contraception, or pill, is all morally wrong, or they are all equally morally acceptable.
Is Depo Provera a good idea? So I'm thinking of starting the birth control method of the shot. Any advice or personal experience with it? I've heard some side effect stories, is it really not worth the actual pregnancy prevention? Please let me know if you have any real suggestions, thanks.
N-9 is bad? Is this true? on a website i was just on it stated Many models of condoms are lubricated with solutions containing nonoxynol-9. In this role, it has been promoted as a backup method for pregnancy and STI prevention in the event of condom failure. However, the 2001 WHO/CONRAD Technical Consultation on Nonoxynol-9 concluded that: There is no published scientific evidence that N-9-lubricated condoms provide any additional protection against pregnancy or STIs compared with condoms lubricated with other products. Since adverse effects due to the addition of N-9 to condoms cannot be excluded, such condoms should no longer be promoted. However, it is better to use N-9-lubricated condoms than no condoms. Additionally, the WHO statement suggests that N-9 should not be used rectally under any circumstances. Does this mean that condoms with N-9 arent as good as regluar lubricated condoms? is it less effective at stoping pregnancy?
Could I be pregnant with the Mirena IUD in place? After having problems with other methods of birth control, I had the Mirena IUD put in last June. This has an extremely high rate of pregnancy prevention (the highest possible besides abstinence, 99.9%), but it's the only method I've been using and I am sexually active. I've been to the doctor because of spotting/constantly being on my period up until a couple of months ago, which she determined was a side effect of Mirena. Over the past few weeks I've had some strange physical symptoms: thicker, somewhat unusual vaginal discharge (my doctor said it was normal because it didn't smell and was clear), hot flashes, mood swings, and some spotting. These are all signs of pregnancy--and tons of other things--but I can't tell if I've missed a period (which all websites say is the number one symptom) because with Mirena my periods are expected to lighten and eventually go away. They are irregular and I usually only have spotting, so I don't know if I could be pregnant. It seems highly unlikely, but I don't know if anyone else has experience anything similar with the Mirena IUD.
PLEASE HELP ME!! NEED ADVICE ATM, IM REALLY STRESSING? okay so im taking estelle 35ed. last week i remember taking at least one, maybe two pills late in the day because i slept in. i took all the pills on the correct days just some were not within the same time.. like saturday i tok it at 11am than sunday night at 8pm but it was within the 12 hour time period, so the instructions claim it to be okay. but then i had sex on tuesday night (we didnt use protection=[ and he tried to pull out as soon as he felt it coming but we dont know if he did c*me in me) and i dont remember what time i took that tuesdays pill because i missed it in the morning but if i didn't, i know i took it when i got home, which is around 4ish. i know you are supposed to take it around the same time every day. but yeah i dont know what this means now because i didnt use protection, but every pill i took was within the 12 hours (of apparent pregnancy prevention still active). :-s but shouldnt it not be late because the pill makes it come at a specific time??
sex without condoms? I am in a serious monogamous relationship with my girlfriend which has so far lasted a year, she is on the pill and we used condoms regularly. However, recently we went bareback and now prefer this over using condoms. We were both virgins when we met and so STDs are not an issue but neither of us are in a position to financially support a baby. So my question is: is it safe to rely on the pill for pregnancy prevention, or is there an additional (or "backup") method of birth control that could be used, that is not as intrusive as condoms (spermicide?). thanks. is it possible to use the IUD/coil and the pill at the same time?
Christians and Atheists, pro lifers and pro choicers, would you unite ? if the demand for abortion was virtually eliminated? When I was in the USAF stationed in Germany, the apothecaries (drug stores) sold these reusable devices, electric, to women to test their urine to see if they were potentially fertile. These devices were 99.9% accurate, you only needed to use them if you were going to have sex; they were small and portable, and 100% safe; no blood clots, no risk of stroke or cancer, and the abortion rate was almost zero. In fact, the German government was so concerned about the negative population growth, they were offering couples tax and financial incentives to have children. We in the US cannot buy these devices because pharmaceutical companies that manufacture birth control pills and other birth control pharmaceuticals and devices would go out of business, so they lobby and do their handshake deals, buy up the technology so it never reaches the US market. We do have a similar product on the market, a one time use, disposable test marketed to women who want to become pregnant, but it is to cost prohibitive to use as a birth prevention method. So my question is, pro lifers, are you so committed to stopping abortion, would you find a way to get this device on the US market? Pro choicers, I know that even though you are pro choice, you'd rather prevent the pregnancy in the first place, so would you work with the pro lifers and help get this on the market? Is it worth abandoning the animosity, the difference of belief and opinion, and preventing these pregnancies in the first place? It's not even a method of birth control that the church can argue with, since there is no harm to any fertilized egg. Here's one that's marketed in the US, but it tests saliva, and you hae to test daily to get a chart, and again, it's marketed to people who want to conceive, not as a birth preventive method: http://www.craigmedical.com/Ovu_Cue.htm#AVAILABILITY Do you know how much beer a German drinks? She tests her urine before she goes out. Her ovulation isn't going to change in a couple of hours; she can figure out what day of her month it is. RU486- yeah, but I was hoping that this would be acceptable, akin to "Catholic roulette" only hedging the bet. Like playing poker with an ace up your sleeve. Silly Taz, you don't put it in you, you pee on it. I would have bought some and brought them back, but the electricity is different, and I would have had to buy converters, and they are heavy and more expensive than the device themselves.
Birth control questions--OrthoTricyclen Lo? I just got put on this pill today and it is my first time taking birth control. I have a few questions... 1. Does this type of birth control help with acne? It says on their website that the "Lo" version hasn't been studied for acne treatment, only the regular version. But has anyone had any luck with this? 2. My OB/GYN said something about how I should be on my period sometime during the pack's cycle, approximately. I think she pointed out the green placebo pills as being about the right time for my period, but I can't remember for sure. Does anyone know? 3. It says that if you are having sex for the first time, which I am going to soon, you must use a backup method of protection for the first 7 days after taking it (when using a "Sunday Start" like I am). I've heard that birth control pills take one month to kick in for pregnancy prevention. So for this pill, is it one month or is it only 7 days until you are protected against pregnancy? Thanks to anyone who can help, I really appreciate it! Just curious, also how much weight did you gain? I weigh 100-110 so I'm not too worried about it but I do want to know how much I am working with here lol. I'm willing to lose it but of course I don't want to gain like 30 pounds all at once.

Do Maps..morning after pills start a new cycle??? Hello…my girl friend and I use the safe day method to prevent Pregnancy. Well some time back,we had sex on a bad day n decided to use MAP for that particular prevention. Well she then started bleeding as if she had gotten her periods. Does this mean she started a second cycle then. It’s been 14 days since her periods that came about as a result of the Map…..we have had sex on this 14th day…does this mean she’s at risk again…shd she take more MAPS to prevent this pregnancy too?

Reproductive rights: Wouldn't our time be better spent on education of our youth? Sex carries risks and consequences of great responsibility. Instead of wasting our breath arguing about what to do when they experience undesirable consequences, wouldn't it be more effective to teach from a prevention perpective? A thorough approach would include: -abstinence -effective use of contraceptives -methods of sexual gratification that do not risk pregnancy -pregnancy education -parenting skills -mandatory early childhood education work experience -economic burden of child rearing Do you think such an education plan would be effective at decreasing the number of unplanned pregnancies and subsequently the number of abortions? Raj, my position on abortion is this: It must remain legal because, regardless of my morality, your morality or anyone else's, some women WILL have abortions. Because of this, the procedure must remain legal to provide sanitary conditions to protect the health of the woman having one. Therefore, the most moral thing we can do is prevent unwanted pregnancy in the first place to decrease the number of abortions. My solution is education. What's yours? Thanks Kessie. I agree - the 24/7 caregiving project is very effective. I see no reason why they can't mandate such curricula. They mandate other subjects - why is reproductive education and parenting deemed less valuable than math or science? Raj, did you take an absurdity pill today? We disagree on the morality of abortion. We disagree on the definition of when life begins. We diagree about a lot of things. Can you possibly be mature enough to agree to disagree and end it? I'd prefer not to use the block feature, but pressed, I will. Raj, your second edit is not relevant to this question. I did not justify abortion at all in my response to your question, only in my details here. You have now crossed the line to harassment and earned your block. Jess - great additions - I'm taking notes :) Thanks for contributing.
Late period worries? My girlfriend and I did something admittedly stupid. We (or mostly I) had a bit too much to drink one night about 1.5 weeks ago, and we had sex and forgot the condom. I know it's not a good method of prevention, but I think I pulled out early for whatever that's worth--but see, that is stupid, because on top of being a bad measure of prevention, I was too tipsy and therefore slow to trust that I truly did pull out early if at all. So damn. She has been telling me lately that her period hasn't come yet, and it's late. I've heard that it could be stress related, but she has never had a problem before with stress and her period--and she's been more stressed before. She says she's never late. And she's scaring me. She's about 1-2 days late. How much time until we should really be concerned? Is there anything we can do at this stage? And wouldn't pregnancy symptoms have surfaced earlier, since we haven't messed around since that night 1.5 weeks ago? I regret my carelessness. I'm worried.
Would you please critique my essay? Humans are animals. This is not bad, and it does not diminish humanity’s status in the food chain. It’s just the truth: Humans are animals. All animals (thus, all humans) have innate urges—the urge to survive, the urge to flee, etc. Sexual urges, though suppressed in humans by centuries of religious dominance, begin in a form of adolescence for all mammals, including humans. Since man’s elevated mental and emotional consciences cause the containment of all “animal” desires, these sexual urges have become taboo for one to express until adulthood is reached. The problem with this suppression is that the mind cannot make sex disappear until “I do”; adolescents feel the biological urge even as society tells them they are not normal and should be ashamed. Sexual education practices, therefore, have developed in modern history as a method of prevention instead of a method of instruction. However, it is human nature—from the Original Sin to Monica Lewinsky—to do exactly what one is not supposed to do. Instead of abstaining from sex as most educators tell them to do, students find ways to explore themselves shadily and sneakily. Teenage pregnancies and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases occur because teens have no knowledge about what they feel, what they are acting on. In order to find a middle ground between social conservatismnd open-body promiscuity, to find a logical compromise between the “animal” urges and the “human” ones, and to ensure the safety of all humans, this practice of oppressive, illogical sexual education must be changed. The problems of the current sex education system lie in the fact that there are so many different, conflicting, this-is-right systems. In most public schools, sexual education is a joke; the 2004 film Mean Girls lampoons the education system’s tendency to relegate sex education to inexperienced gym teachers who would not know a condom if it hit them in the face. Since society has pushed sex into a bizarre id-level obsession, administrators feel as if sex education is not worth the controversy it creates. As the whole world tries to please everyone by being politically correct, conflicts frequently emerge when one school of thought is favored over another, especially in public-sponsored arenas like schools. Parents bickering about what system should be taught to which children have negatively affected the kids they ought to be helping. Kept out of the light, high school graduates are finding themselves in the crazy college world of no parents, no rules. Their ignorance is largely to blame for increases in sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies. When students are not given the right of a solid education about sex, they suffer just as much as a person who is not given the right of a solid education about Mathematics or English. By failing its students so dramatically, the current school system just does not make the grade when it comes to sexual education. The problems with sexual education extend far past the realm of public education. The private school, in-home, and religious-based systems of sexual education are almost more egregious than the public school system. So often in these places, parents and educators, having been shunned from ever discussing sex by their parents and educators, do not feel comfortable speaking with children about the realities of the world. Sure, a teenager can read a book or surf the internet for the education he or she needs, but adult-to-child communication is much more important to the development of a healthy sexual identity than clinical studies about HIV. Even worse than no communication between parents and children, though, is unfortunate communication about abstinence-only philosophies. These opinions, while valid in asserting that the only way to avoid sexual consequences is to abstain from sex, neglect to consider the biological urges puberty causes in teenagers. Kids are going to have sex; it’s just a matter of when, where, and how safely they do it. Abstinence-only systems “deter contraceptive use among sexually active teens, increasing their risk of unintended pregnancy and STIs,” meaning that they fail miserably (“Facts” 30). Students learn to neglect their bodies until mom, dad, and god are not watching; the inspired fear of eternal damnation for acting on biologically-determined feelings is not enough to prevent dangerous activity. There is no perfect way to fix a problem so involved in religions, opinions, and taboos as sexual education. In order to rectify the issues with numerous incorrect systems, all places of education must learn their places in the world. Public schools must bite the bullet and offer open classes that approach each viewpoint, even those based in religion, equally. Parents need to be frank with their kids and teach them to understand that their bodies are writing checks their minds just cannot cash yet. Abstinence-only educators must take a step away from the impressionable childr
Digestive diseases: Celiac disease? This is for a science project on digestive diseases. I had finished my project on peptic ulcers but then I found out someone else in the class had chosen the same disease so the teacher told us that one of us had to choose something else. The other person had only printed out some stuff from the internet. I was the unfortunate one who was told to do my project on another disease. A bit unfair don't you think? Anyway... 1. What are the causes of celiac disease? I know that it's genetic and even though some people may not show symptoms, it can be triggered by stress, pregnancy, surgery, infection, serious injury, childbirth, etc. but is there anything else which can cause it? 2. Are there any treatments for it apart from avoiding food containing gluten altogether (which is more a method of prevention than treatment) ? These two points are the parts of my project I am unsure about. Thanks in advance :)
I saw a qestion on here concerning Sex Ed....? How many parents out there have talked (or will talk to) their teenagers about sex....not just the birds and the bees...but include ways to prevent pregnancy, STD's, STI's? I have a 15 month old daughter. I know that when she does become a teenager, I am going to sit down with her and lay EVERYTHING out on the table (abstinence, pregnancy, STD's, STI's, prevention, morals etc...etc). I'll even offer to help her get birth control and/or other methods of protection. The way I see it, it's not GIVING permission to have sex as a teenager, but I have to do MORE than JUST HOPE she won't make bad choices and deal with the consequences later. I think that if teenagers are going to start becoming sexually active, then they'll do it weather the parents like it or not. I would rather my child go through her teen years well informed, than come to me one day at the age of 16 and tell me that she's pregnant (or worse); with me regretting that I didn't at least talk to her. How do you feel?
This is an opinion from a blog. It's long! Does this sound like the writer is claiming to be impartial? "This country has been pro-choice, by law, since January 22, 1973. We have went through a number of Presidents since 1973. Abortion has remained LEGAL and pro-choice has been the winning "side". Since Tuesday, November 4, 2008, suddenly everyone (ɐɯɐqo sɹǝʇɐɥ) has came out of the Pro-life closet!! I have never heard these people speak ONE WORD of pro-life talk. I have had people chase me down at D-Docks telling me Obama is "for abortion". So Bush is not "for abortion"? After all, abortion was legal during both of his terms. Late term abortions happened when Bush was in office. A late term is any abortion that happens afer 20 weeks. I hear that Obama is for "partial-birth" abortion. The "partial birth" part was made up by the pro-life movement. It's entirely innacurate propoganda. This happens under extreme circumstances. For those of you that belive everything you hear without doing research through unbiased sources: This is called "intact dilation and extraction". The numbers are about .17% per year. Very rare. Very rare. Yes, it happened during Bush's term. If abortion was illegal, could you imagine the numbers of abandoned babies? Women would still find a way. They do this now. Wire hangers. That's all I need to say. Could you imagine the boyfriend beating his girlfriend in the stomach? Yes, there is adoption. There are 200,000 families that want to adopt, there are 400,000 kids that need homes. This system is flawed. Big time. President Obama wants to help the women of this country. Bet you haven't heard this yet! From his website: Preventing Unintended Pregnancy: President Obama was an original co-sponsor of legislation to expand access to contraception, health information, and preventive services to help reduce unintended pregnancies. Introduced in January 2007, the Prevention First Act will increase funding for family planning and comprehensive sex education that teaches both abstinence and safe sex methods. The Act will also end insurance discrimination against contraception, improve awareness about emergency contraception, and provide compassionate assistance to rape victims. There is someone that you know that has had an abortion. The numbers prove this. You may not know who or when. So watch your mouth when you start talking about abortion. Maybe they are having a hard time with it. They may have asked our Lord for forgiveness. Your words could make them feel unworthy of forgiveness. Maybe if you speak out of love, you could help change a life. First of all, let me say, thank you to all the BRAVE men and women that have went to war for this country. I have so much respect for you. God bless you and your families! Check this out. Vets don't even agree with this war: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_Veterans_Against_the_War We have lost over 4000 men and women in this war. We have many disabled veterans. The death toll of Iraqi men, women and children is over ONE MILLION. Can someone explain to me how this is pro-life???? I belive that we have to defend ourself during an attack but this has turned into a fight for oil. Go anywhere in the world, including this country, and you will find people that would love to see Bush charged with war crimes. And people wonder why the world loves Obama? Gee. Back to square one. Maybe you are pro-life, you go to rallies, you wear your pro-life shirts, you donate to pro-life charities. Fine. I can understand why you umm... "hate" Obama. Fine. Gotcha! If this is just an excuse not to like him, not to try to understand him, not to respect him, you need to get a life. I have more repect if you come out and say, "I don't like Obama because he is black." Don't use the abortion issue as an excuse. I am not pro-abortion, pro-life, or pro-choice. I hate labels. I belive in loving others, being there for them, and helping them through anything they may face. I belive in keeping my mouth shut and praying for people. The world would be a better place if we would do this." The question again is: does the writer sound like he is claiming to be impartial?
please read my rough draft....? its an argumentative paper..its mainly alot of statistics and me bitching. i know it sucks so you dont have to tell me i just need a final copy turned in tuesday, help me improve it somehow please. be honest and if theres anything i can add to it to make it longer let me know. thank you! Giving Free Contraceptives to Teens: Harmful or Helpful? Teenagers having free access to contraceptives has been a swaying issue for those who believe that contraceptives are harmful or helpful. In this day and age teens are having sex at a younger and younger age. When the issue of giving free contraceptives to teenagers comes up there is the group that cringes into a ball and the other that gives a sigh of relief. The issues that are normally argued are that teenagers are not old or wise enough to make big decisions such as having sex, which contraceptive to use, or how to avoid the risk of getting an STD, HIV, or HPV. There are health advantages and concerns that arise with certain types of birth control including the prevention of STDs and AIDS. Or since teenagers go through puberty and are going to experiment anyways shouldn’t they have safe sex and be provided for? Do parents have to be notified if their teen is asking for contraceptives? Who would be paying for these “free” contraceptives? Also religious views and moral beliefs of the people decide how they react to the issue itself. There are at least five main ways to prevent pregnancy. The first is abstinence, which is voluntarily refraining from any sexual activity. This form of contraceptive is the only contraceptive proven to be 100% effective. The second would be a fertility awareness method, Natural Family Planning (NFP) this form of birth control does not rely on any devices or medications to prevent pregnancy. Natural Family Planning is a contraceptive method that uses the natural functions of your body and your menstrual cycle to calculate ovulation. The most common features of NFP involve recording of your body temperature and changes in your cervical mucus each day. This method requires abstinence 7 to 10 days during the ovulation period. Some women choose to use a barrier method or withdrawal during this time frame. Barrier methods are a third choice, they are made to stop sperm from entering a woman’s uterus. The first form of barrier method is the male condom is a tube of thin material (latex rubber) that is rolled over the erect penis prior to contact with the vagina. A condom is a most common barrier method. The female condom is a seven-inch long pouch of polyurethane with two flexible rings and is inserted into the vagina prior to intercourse. The female condom covers the cervix, vaginal canal, and the immediate area around the vagina. The third barrier method is are chemicals that are designed to kill sperm. Spermicidal chemicals are available as foam, jelly, foaming tablets and vaginal suppositories. Diaphram is a soft rubber dome stretched over a flexible ring; the dome is filled with a spermicidal cream or jelly. The diaphragm is inserted into the vagina and placed over the cervix no more than 3 hours prior to intercourse. Cervical cap is a small cup made of latex rubber or plastic. The cervical cap is filled with a spermicidal cream or jelly and inserted into the vagina and placed over the cervix. Contraceptive sponge is a soft saucer-shaped device made from polyurethane foam. The fourth method, Hormonal methods contain manufactured forms of the hormones estrogen and/or progesterone. Hormonal methods work in one of three ways: 1) preventing a woman's ovaries from releasing an egg each month; 2) causing the cervical mucus to thicken making it harder for sperm to reach and penetrate the egg; 3) thinning the lining of the uterus which reduces the likelihood that a fertilized egg will implant in the uterus wall. Hormonal contraceptives do not protect against the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases. The first form is the birth-control pill (“the pill“) are taken daily as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Depo-Provera is an injection given by your health care provider that prevents pregnancy for three months. Lunelle is an injection given by your health care provider that prevents pregnancy for one month. NuvaRing or vaginal ring is a flexible ring that is inserted into the vagina for three weeks, removed for one week, and then replaced with a new ring. Ortho Evra Patch/ Birth Control Patch is placed directly on the skin with the hormones built into the sticky side of the patch. Each week for the first three weeks a patch is placed on the hip, buttocks or upper arm. The fourth week you are free from the patch allowing for a menstrual period. Intrauterine Device (IUD) is placed directly on the skin with the hormones built into the sticky side of the patch. Each week for the first three weeks a patch is placed on the hip, buttocks or upper arm. The fourth week you are free from the patch allowing for a menstrual period. The n

Menstruation came early.....? I just got my second HPV cervical cancer prevention shot on tuesday 2/3 and i am on birth control have been for 3 years. Im only in the second week of my pills and had sex twice 2/3 and 2/5 with my boyfriend. Hes the only guy i've been with for the past 9 months and we've used protection like twice other then that its unprotected and he doesn't use the pull out method cause it feels better just finishing all the way. One why did my period come early like it did? Cause when i got the first shot i didn't get my period early. Two is there a possibility of a pregnancy?
Which method is better?? To prevent pregnancy is the condom, the pill or the patch better? What are the advantages and disadvanteges? And which one has a higher rate of prevention?
Discharge and possible pregnancy? So I'm aware that there's a pregnancy prevention method that involves having your "safe days" and your "non-safe days". (Not the best method.) I looked up that while you're ovulating, it causes a white vaginal discharge and it also indicates that it's also your non-safe day. I also read that once you are pregnant, the discharge stops since sperm is being fertilized. I had unprotected sex just yesterday (wasn't completely finished) and I have some discharge today. Does that mean I'm not pregnant? Or...is it too soon?
Natural methods to increase fertility? i'm looking for some herbal/natural methods to increase fertility for my partner and myself. Also natural miscarriage preventions would be great. Do these natural fertility methods increase chances of multiple pregnancy? Are they safe? And do they actually work?
